Youth Employment

In partnership with East Side Works, Career, Technical and Education (CTE) department, the Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House (LBDNH) and their federally-funded Community Youth Employment program (CYEP), has hired 150 District 189 high school students to work in East St. Louis and surrounding communities. Students that are currently enrolled in school or ages 16-17 will work 12-15 hours per week, and participants ages 18-24 will work 15-30 hours per week. Applicants selected for the program are provided with rigorous soft-skills training to meet the demands of the workforce. Upon completion of training, students are matched with community employment host sites that meet their skill level and includes their career interests. The CYEP grant funds will pay the stipend for students at their employment site for 10 weeks, with the hope of continued employment with the community host site.

LBDNH is currently looking for community employers who are willing to invest in the future of our youth, provide hands on training and consider continued employment beyond the 10 week period. For more information, register for youth employment, or to serve as a host employment site, please contact Eric L. Smith at 618-874-0777 or esmith@lessiebatesdavis.org
