Notice of Board Vacancy
BOARD OF EDUCATION EAST ST. LOUIS SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 189 ST. CLAIR COUNTY, ILLINOIS NOTICE OF BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBER VACANCY PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that, pursuant to Section 10-10 of the Illinois School Code (105 ILCS 5/10-10) and Board of Education Policy No. 2:70, the Board of Education of East St. Louis School District Number 189, St. Clair County, Illinois (School District) is accepting applications to fill the vacancy resulting from the death of Board of Education Member RC Clark. The individual selected will serve on the Board of Education from the date of appointment until a successor Board of Education Member is elected and seated following the Consolidated Election on April 4, 2023. The School District is committed to providing educational experiences for students Pre-K through twelfth grade, with experience that will ensure that students are afforded the broadest range of opportunities to reach the academic potential and thus become productive and contributing members of society, and opportunities that are inclusive of but not limited to community-based programs and post-secondary options that focus on reading and mathematics strategies which ensure that each child is proficient at every grade level. Applicants for the Board of Education vacancy must: on the date of his or her appointment, be a citizen of the United States of the age of 18 years or over; be a resident of the State and the School District for at least one year immediately preceding his or her appointment; be a registered voter as provided in the general election law; not be a school trustee; not have been removed from a school board pursuant to Section 2-3.25f-5 of this Code (unless subsequently appointed as a member of an Independent Authority or if it has been 10 years since the abolition of the Independent Authority in the district), and not be a child sex offender as defined in Section 11-9.3 of the Criminal Code of 2012. Applicants should show familiarity with the Board of Education's policies regarding general duties and responsibilities of a Board of Education and a Board of Education Member, including fiduciary responsibilities, conflict of interest, ethics and gift ban. Completed applications must be turned in by 12:00 p.m. on December 9, 2022 to the Board of Education President, 1005 State Street, East St. Louis, Illinois.
