eLearning, Return to Learn, & ESSER III Plans

eLearning Plan

During inclement weather or other school-closing events, eLearning (remote instruction) days may be implemented to ensure we do not lose an instructional day.  Up to five eLearning days may be utilized in a school year.

The District's eLearning Plan provides clarity about student and staff responsibilities during a potential eLearning day.  In the state of Illinois, eLearning days must include at least five clock hours of combined instruction and school work for each student who would normally receive a full day of in-person instruction.  School District 189 students will participate in at least 2.5 hours per day of synchronous learning with real-time instruction and live, online interaction between students and their teachers.

ESSER III Plan

Under the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief III ARP Fund (ESSER III), funds have been allocated to address the impact that Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has had, and continues to have, on elementary and secondary schools across the nation.  The ESSER III Plan outlines how funds from the American Rescue Plan (ARP) ESSER III will be used by East St. Louis School District 189. This plan focuses on four areas to ensure the safety of our students and staff as well as addresses learning loss that occurred during the COVID-19 global pandemic. The four primary areas of focus prioritized to maximize in-person instruction include:

  1. Prevention and mitigation strategies
  2. Addressing the academic impact of lost instructional time
  3. Other interventions
  4. Responding to the needs of all students
