East St. Louis School District 189 believes that safe schools are the result of a coordinated, collaborative effort between all stakeholders. This includes staff, local law enforcement, emergency first responders, community members, parents and students. We proactively work together with stakeholders to create a safe and secure learning environment for our students and staff.

Several school security improvements were recommended and implemented during the school year, including:
*Locking all entry doors during the school day
*Relocating School Security Officer’s desk and visitor management
devises closer to the front entrances of all schools.
*Installing electronic entry systems with video surveillance cameras to
provide a clear recording of the person entering and exiting the doors.
*Providing staff training active intruder protocol 4E’s concept from
*St. Clair County Sheriff's Department Certified 4Es Trainer.
