Every Student Succeeds Act and Title 1
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was signed by President Obama on December 10, 2015. Under ESSA, the purpose of Title 1 is to provide all children significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education and to close educational gaps.
Title 1 provides federal dollars to help supplement educational opportunities for children who live in poverty areas and are most at risk of failing. Students are served based on educational need.
GEAR UP 189 - Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a federally funded program that is designed to increase the number of students who are prepared to enter and succeed in post-secondary education. The program serves students in the classes of 2019 and 2020 and provides tutoring, college tours, soft skills development, financial literacy, and parent engagement services.
