    • Avant, Dunbar, Officer & Wright Elementary Schools: 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
    • Bush Elementary School: 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
    • Mason/Clark & Lincoln Middle Schools: 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
    • East St. Louis Senior High School: 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
    • Younge Alternative Center: 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

    HALF DAY dismissal times for school year 2017-2018:

  • Boil Order Lifted - School Resumes

    School across the district was cancelled January 18 due to a boil water order issued by Illinois American Water. The boil order was lifted later that afternoon after tests confirmed that the water once again meets all state and federal requirements. School resumed on Friday, January 19, 2018.

  • District 189 Leaders Receive State Board of Ed's Highest Honor

    Members of the District 189 Office of School Turnaround -- Devon Horton, Jennifer Brumback, Roshanda Johnson, Lelon Seaberry and Lauren Thomas -- have been chosen to receive the ISBE’s Those Who Excel award in the team category.

  • Building on East St. Louis Arts Legacy

    The National Endowment for the Arts has awarded District 189 and its community partners a $75,000 grant to educate more than 700 students about the rich artistic history of East St. Louis -- and help them discover their own talent. Called East St. Louis Performs, the partnership includes the Katherine Dunham Center, Sunshine Cultural Arts Center, House of Miles, East St. Louis Housing Authority, Catholic Urban Programs - Griffin Center, Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center, Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House, Sinai Family Life Center, Christian Activity Center and the SIUE East St. Louis Center.

  • District 189 to Join Great American ShakeOut Earthquake Drill

    East St. Louis District 189 staff and students will join schools across the country Thursday, Oct. 19 by participating in the Great American ShakeOut earthquake preparedness program. The Great ShakeOut drill centers around the drop, cover and hold on actions: Drop down to the ground, take cover under a table or other piece of heavy furniture, and then hold on until the shaking stops.

    Gordon Bush Elementary School was featured on The Thread TV show on Fox 2. Please take some time to watch the feature. We are all proud of the work that's taking place across the district in all of our schools. It's also a huge accomplishment to have our very own School of the Year - Gordon Bush highlighted.

    As we approach the holiday season, it is a perfect time to reflect and be thankful for the wonderful blessings that come our way. The spirit of giving is all around us. It is amazing that with all the responsibilities you have, many of you go above and beyond the call of duty to meet the needs of our students. I would like to recognize a few of those major giving initiatives.

    The school year will soon be coming to a close. It is hard to believe that most of the school year is already completed. There have been many great experiences and successes during this time. Four high school students will be graduating with their high school diploma and their associate’s degree from SWIC through the Running Start program.

    At the close of a calendar year, it is customary to reflect on our successes and challenges. Reflection is a crucial habit to ensure continuous improvement. A commitment to excellence requires us to never settle for low quality, mediocrity or poor performance. On our journey toward excellence and greatness, we should celebrate our successes; however, we must not be content until we reach our destination.
